I know, I know… I haven’t updated in a while. I’ve been running around Europe, looking for good beer. But you can come to the 7th Annual Blues and Brews at Lock 3, downtown Akron, and taste all kinds of good beer without running around Europe. It will feature over 20 Ohio breweries and about 70 or so other breweries from around the nation and world. That amounts to hundreds of different beers!

Be there! Noon – 2 pm is Brewer’s Circle only, and 2-6 pm is General Admission. Go to bluesnbrews.org for more details and to purchase tickets. Get your Brewer’s Circle tickets before they are sold out! That gets you 21 extra special and barrel aged beers available only to VIPs plus lunch from the Winking Lizard.

Lock 3 park is located at 200 South Main Street in Akron. Free parking is available on both sides of Lock 3 in parking garages.

Blues & Brews was originally established as a craft beer festival on the grounds of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. In 2011, Blues & Brews formed as its own not-for-profit organization and moved its home to Lock 3 Park in Akron, Ohio. Art and Ale in Akron

Friday, March 11, from 6-9 pm at the Akron Art Museum, you can peruse fine works of art while sipping handcrafted beers from local breweries and food tastings from regional producers.

The museum is currently featuring an exhibit of works by Escher. Breweries participating include Elevator, Hoppin’ Frog, Indigo Imp, Main Street, Ohio Brewing, and Thirsty Dog.

There will also be home brewing demonstrations and you can talk with the experts on your own brewing troubles and successes. Beacon Journal Reporter Rick Armon will be on hand to discuss the state of brewing in Ohio. (He has a soon-to-be published book on Ohio breweries.)

You can also help pick the “Best of the Art” from the beers presented during the evening and enter to win prizes including a beer making evening at The BREW Kettle Taproom and Smokehouse in Strongsville for you and five of your friends or a home brewing kit to get you started making your very own beers.

Cleveland International Beer Fest

Billed as the the largest showcase and competition of world beers in the Midwest, it’s coming to the IX Center in Cleveland on May 13-14, 2011.

You will find upwards of 800 beers from 200 breweries all under one roof. The event will feature three public tasting sessions with 200 stellar breweries from around the world pouring upwards of 800 select beers – tickets are on sale now at www.ixbeerfest.com.

“It is a natural fit that Cleveland and the I-X Center host a beer showcase and competition of this caliber,” notes Bob Peterson, President, I-X Center. “With more than 45 active breweries in the state and a consistent top 10 rank nationally in terms of consumption, Ohioans know, respect and support the beer industry. As an exposition center with a proven track record of success, the I-X Center is thrilled to produce an event of this magnitude highlighting local, national and international beers and breweries.”
