A1A licenses are required for serving beer or liquor on an A1  premise (although recent law changes allow for tasting rooms at breweries without the A1A now.)

ANHEUSER BUSCH LLC – Columbus Ohio. Top of the list, not sure why [...]]]> It’s been a great year for Ohio Craft brewing scene with many new breweries opening. I checked the Ohio Liquor Control Board to make sure I didn’t miss any. The following are new permits issued for brewers in Ohio in the year 2011:

ANHEUSER BUSCH LLC – Columbus Ohio. Top of the list, not sure why this one is here as Busch has long had a brewery in Columbus–maybe new location? Who really cares?

ALEXANDRIA’S – brewpub and restaurant in Findlay, Ohio. I’ve haven’t been here yet. Check their Facebook page. Issued 10/25/2011

MARKET GARDEN BREWERY & BAR CENTO – West 25th Street in Cleveland next to the West Side Market and across from Bier Markt. Who doesn’t know about this one by now? Andy Tveekrem’s return to Cleveland is well known among NEO beer lovers. Issued 4/7/2011

LITTLE MOUNTAIN BREWING COMPANY CO – Kirtland, Ohio. Mostly a brew on premise for now, but does brew his own, too. Issued 1/24/2011

COLUMBUS KOMBUCHA CO LLC – Doing business as Luna Kombucha Co at 3478 North High Street in Columbus. They have a brewing license because their product is a fermented tea beverage, but not really beer. Issued 5/3/2011

FOUR STRING BREWING COMPANY in Columbus. Newly issued 10/1/2011 and is now available in some Columbus bars, but official launch party is January 13, 2012 at Woodland’s Tavern. Click here for more information.

BUCKEYE LAKE BREWERY – Buckeye Lake, Ohio, of course. Issued 11/22.

NEIL HOUSE BREWERY – Columbus, Ohio. First was a homebrew supply shop, now brews. Issued 1/7/11

STOIUM GROUP LLC DBA THE BREWERY & PATIO – This is the old Marietta Brewing Co which closed and then reopened under new ownership. Issued 6/10/2011

On April 30 & May 1, 2011, more than eighteen beer judges and nine beer stewards, participated in the 2nd Annual Denver International Beer Competition at the Omni Interlocken Resort, Broomfield, Colorado.

The judges awarded a total of [...]]]> At the recent 2011 Denver International Beer Competition, Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA won yet another gold medal .

On April 30 & May 1, 2011, more than eighteen beer judges and nine beer stewards, participated in the 2nd Annual Denver International Beer Competition at the Omni Interlocken Resort, Broomfield, Colorado.

The judges awarded a total of 43 medals in sixteen categories, plus Best of Show. Congratulations to Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon and brewer Matt Cole for the gold medal in the IPA category!

Here’s a list of medals or awards won by this fantastic West Coast style India Pale Ale:

• Silver medal, 2010 Great American Beer Fest
• 1st place champion – Brewing News National IPA challenge
• Gold medal, 2009 West Coast IPA festival
• Top 25 beers in the World 2009, Draft Magazine
• Gold medal winner, Cleveland Oktoberfest

Update: Two Ohio brews: Hoppin’ Frog’s Hoppin’ to Heaven IPA and Buckeye’s Cleveland IPA have advanced to the third round which [...]]]> It’s that time of year again… for the annual Brewing News National IPA Championships. Update: Two Ohio brews: Hoppin’ Frog’s Hoppin’ to Heaven IPA and Buckeye’s Cleveland IPA have advanced to the third round which will be held on March 2. Congrats and good luck!

Update #2: Both Ohio brews lost in the third round. The final winner of the competition this year was Lawson’s Finest Liquids Triple Play IPA from the Sugarhouse Brewery in Warren, Vermont. Others in the Final Four were Organic Hopworks IPA from Hopworks Urban Brewery, Dirty Dog IPA from Big Dog’s Brewing Co., and Ithaca Brewing’s Flower Power IPA.

Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA won a [...]]]> Ohio wins 6 medals at the Great American Beer Festival. Winners were announced this afternoon at the “members only” session. The awards were also announced live on a web cast. Winners were:

Hoppin’ Frog won the gold medal in the field style category for their Frog Hollow Double Pumpkin ale.

Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA won a silver medal in the American Style India Pale Ale Category, out of 142 entries. the largest category the the Great American Beer Festival.

BREWKettle won a silver medal for their Red Eye PA in the Imerial Red Ale category, out of 43 entries, and a bronze medal for their Jack Hammer Barleywine! This is a first GABF medal ever for BREWKettle and they were the only Ohio brewery to win two medals!

Columbus Brewing Co won the bronze medal out of 24 entries in the Kellerbier/Zwickelbier category, for their Summer Teeth.

And last, but certainly not least, Jay Wince of Weasel Boy Brewing in Zanesville won a bronze for their Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout, out of 76 entries in the imperial stout category. This also is a first for Weasel Boy!
